So at the time of writing the Great British Lockdown is imminent. The international CoVid-19 pandemic is striking us all and we at Fat Cat’s Patch are no different. A-Bomb and the Terminator have been off school a week already because one of them had a cough. Now schools have closed with no clear view as to when they will open again. So the responsibility has mostly fallen on EmmCee to do some home schooling, which is no easy thing. EmmCee and I are both working from home and our productivity has dropped a fair old bit. Having two children in the house requiring attention tends to do that.
Otherwise life goes on. I’m currently in the process of refurbishing the kitchen with plastered walls in the process of being painted by EmmCee. We have no sink and the Lockdown probably means little chance of getting a professional to do the worktops any time soon. So tomorrow will be a rush to the local hardware store to buy enough plumbing supplies to get a sink set up in a salvaged piece of worktop until we can do the proper job.
Foodwise we’re ok, we normally have a decent amount in the pantry and freezers. We’re finding getting to the shops hasn’t been a problem so far even if the selection is much reduced. I’m hoping to do a bit of real cooking now that I’m at home more. The last few weeks without a real kitchen has distinctly limited us in this regard. I think this will be a good opportunity to do some cooking with the monsters. Ragu sauce, beef pies, maybe the odd soup we’ll see what the Lockdown brings. I have made myself the promise to work through the dried pulses that have lingered unloved for a while.
