Spring Update – Apple Blossom in Bloom

As is the tradition for this year another brief update. Blossom is now in bloom and the garden is definitely waking from it’s winter slumber if a little later this year because of the prolonged cold spell. By and large the apple trees are doing ell and the blossom is a clear indication of this.

We started the year thinking we’d lost Old Man Apple Tree, but stories of his demise were greatly exagerated. I’m sure there is a precedent for that somewhere. But with the apple trees cioming into bloom the blossom told it’s own tale.

Old man apple tree survived the winter despite tipping over. I started heavily pollarding but didn’t get it fiished before new growth started.

Whilst Old Man Apple Tree isn’t looking his healthiest it looks like he may survive another few years with a bit of pollarding over the next winter. Not all our apple trees look so fecund one of our dessert apples catches the wind a bit and has lost the odd branch over the last few years and has a little less blossom than the rest.

This tree has caught the wind a bit over the last few years hence the odd dmaged branch and a little less blossom this year.

But it’s not all about blossom earlier in the spring the primroses did well with some of the earliest blooms in the garend. We’d brought these with us from Kent wehere they had been common in the garden and they’ve taken well to Wales.

In the House

I’ve nearly finished the kitchen with the wall cabinet come plate rack being the near final addition. I’m quite proud of it even if it took me a long time to complete.
