Lazy Days – Lego Magical Mystery Hunt

It has been a very full on year so far. We have spent a lot of time and effort away from our usual self sufficient-ish pursuits. Today was a Lazy Day. To commerate the 20 anniversary of the Harry Potter Films Lego organised a magical mystery hunt in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

The magic begins here.

So I rounded up the family and jumped on the train into Cardiff. It’s only a short journey and with the Family and Friends Railcard remarkably cheap for 2 adults and 2 monsters. I took our slightly battered copy of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone with us and read it to the monsters on the train. By happy coincidence we were at the chapters where Harry arrives at Kings Cross which continued the railway theme of our Lazy Day.

So the Hunt begins.

We mooched around town for a little while before arriving at the Castle at 10am to begin the hunt. It was a little disorganised we queued for a photo then to access the QR code to start the event. Sadly the technology for creating codes was a bit tempermental. We followed the hunt eventually which was an Augmented Reality race around Cardiff with a few questions and camera overlays to simulate magic. If it had worked perfectly it would have been a nice little way to spend the morning. Sadly it was far too tempermental and when you got to the finale of seeing the Lego Ford Anglia they tell you there is only one and it’s in London. Not great but best not to dwell on it.

Lego Store

So after the let down of the Lego Magical Mystery Hunt we went to the Lego Store and the ever curteous staff gave us a gift for completing the Hunt. Feeling overly generous I also bought the kids a Lego Harry Potter First Flying Lesson set.

Well the kids will enjoy building this.

Looks quite cool and links to other sets in the 20th Anniversary release.

Journey Home

Today was a rugby day in Cardiff city centre with everyone looking forward to a match against South Africa. From long experience I know these are very busy days so we brought our trip to a close about lunch time. I picked up some junk food from the nations favourite purveyor and we got on the train to eat our chicken nuggets and fries.

The trip wasn’t complete though, once we had cleared our table and disposed of our rubbish I got out our free gifts.

Whilst no the most complex Lego set it was a nice diversion whilst we pootled through the Glamorgan countryside. Once the lego was complete I got out our book and we continued with our story of the Boy Who Lived and his first meeting with Ron Weasley. As Lazy Days go this had been nice so far but it wasn’t over.

Lazy Day – Pizza and Movies

So once we got home a largely lazy day was ended with some homemade pizza. I’m somewhat surpised I’ve never written about pizaa making but alas today I did take any photos but I’ll cover this in the future. Our usual of homemade dough in the stand mixer and allowed to prove. I topped this with a cooked tomato sauce of reduced passata and a little seasoning. Plus some light mozzarella and bit of anti-pasti and sliced chorizo. We cook these on an alumium pizza dish that we stick directly onto the hob, guarantteeing a nice crisp base.

We ate these pizzas whilst we watched Muppets Treasure Island. A great film that had the monsters laughing all the way through. Not quite as good as Muppets A Christmas Carol but brilliant nonetheless.

Sorry I’ve been a bit preoccupied of late to post regulalry but hopefully we can correct that in the months to come.
